Turning Press Waste into a Limited Poster Series for the Polestar 4 by Lundgren+Lindqvist Book printing naturally produces a mountain of waste paper from press make-ready sheets used to fine-tune ink coverage and color accuracy before the final press run. During the production of the Polestar 4 Design Book at GBGT Box in Gothenburg, design studio Lundgren+Lindqvist rescued these setup sheets instead of throwing them into the recycling bin. The studio transformed that industrial scrap paper into a striking, limited-edition experimental poster collection.
Every single poster in the collection is a total original. The paper surfaces capture cyan alignment marks, crop lines, ink smudges, and randomly layered graphics of cars and chassis components created spontaneously while press technicians dialed in the machine.
To bring order and structure to the chaotic background, Lundgren+Lindqvist layered a bold black typographic grid right over the top. The oversized headline, “Action. Drama. Comedy. Suspense. Suspension. And one or two surprises.”, delivers the punchy rhythm of classic movie posters. Below the main title, detailed book specs—like the ISBN, copyright info, team credits, and hand-numbered edition details for each of the 138 prints—anchor the layout.
The series spans five different paper stocks pulled directly from the original publication, ranging from textured uncoated paper to smooth art paper and rich dark blue stock. Repurposing this production waste echoes Polestar’s commitment to using recycled materials across its electric vehicle lineup. Instead of treating color registration marks or ink splatters as flaws, the studio embraced them as authentic marks of the physical printing process.
