When Fashion Editors Become Collage Artworks Illustrator Sabina Farziyeva’s editorial illustration series for Nargis Magazine serves up a super fun concept: reimagining iconic fashion editors-in-chief not through their literal portraits, but through their unmistakable style and vibrant pattern mixing.
Outfits sit right at the heart of every portrait to bring each personality to life. Mention Anna Wintour and that signature bob, dark sunglasses, and classic pearl necklace instantly come to mind, layered here with a patchwork coat featuring mosaic tiles, metallic brocade, green plaid, and animal spots. Diana Vreeland comes alive with two-tone hair, pearls, and a crescent moon necklace against a rich red brocade background. Meanwhile, Grace Coddington stands out with her signature fiery orange hair and monogrammed ensemble. Even the backdrops are lovingly detailed—stage curtains, gallery walls, and patterned wallpaper come together for some seriously eye-catching visual contrast.
The custom hand-lettering throughout the series keeps things fresh and dynamic. Names of fashion heavyweights like Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld, and Edward Enninful sweep across the canvas like personal signatures. Inspiring quotes rest inside bold black caption boxes layered over the compositions, accompanied by tiny details like section tags and page numbers to nail that authentic print magazine look.
Created digitally with Photoshop and Procreate, Farziyeva’s artwork still captures a remarkably realistic handmade collage aesthetic. Textures like brocade, plaid, pinstripes, and animal prints weave naturally with painterly linework. Six portraits made the cut for the print issue of Nargis Magazine dedicated to Editors, brilliantly blending fashion visual language with pop culture inspiration like The Devil Wears Prada.
