Khi Kimmelot ngỏ lời mời thực hiện phần opening title sequence cho “4×20: Quick Hits” – một series tài liệu tuyển tập trên Hulu khám phá về văn hóa thảo mộc, Wesley Ebelhar đã vô cùng hào hứng bắt tay vào dự án. Thử thách ở đây khá là “căng”: bốn tập phim là bốn câu chuyện hoàn toàn khác nhau, đòi hỏi một đoạn intro vừa phải có gu, vừa phải hòa hợp được với những tone giọng vô cùng khác biệt của từng tập.
Phong cách 2D animated collage (cắt dán hoạt họa 2D) chính là câu trả lời hoàn hảo cho đề bài này. Nó cho phép người nghệ sĩ thỏa sức sáng tạo với những bố cục xếp lớp đầy tính “trippy” (ảo giác) và tha hồ cài cắm các easter egg thú vị liên quan chặt chẽ đến nội dung của từng tập phim. Cùng thưởng thức “4×20: Quick Hits” hiện đã phát sóng trên Hulu.

When Kimmelot approached Wesley Ebelhar to create the opening title sequence for 4×20: Quick Hits—a Hulu anthology docuseries diving into weed culture—he was absolutely stoked to jump on board. The brief was definitely a tricky one: with four episodes telling completely different stories, the intro needed a cohesive, stylish vibe that could sit comfortably in front of wildly different tones.
A 2D animated collage style turned out to be the perfect solution for this project. It opened the door for some seriously creative freedom, leaning into trippy, layered compositions and packing in fun easter eggs that tied back to each individual episode.
