Australian animation studio Motionlab beautifully brought this epic journey to life in a vibrant short animated video. This brilliant project even scooped up Gold and Silver at the 2020 Telly Awards!
Legend has it that the whole story kicked off in 9th-century Ethiopia with a goat herder named Kaldi. One day, he noticed his herd suddenly busting out dance moves after munching on some strange berries. Intrigued, Kaldi tried them himself and ended up joining the groove with his livestock. Local monks spotted this wild energy boost and decided to boil the beans into a drink to stay wide awake during long evening prayers.
By the 15th century, a distinct coffee culture began brewing in Yemen. Even though local growers tried their hardest to keep the beans an exclusive secret, the hype couldn’t be contained. Pilgrims ended up smuggling the seeds back to their homelands, spreading the love to India, Italy, and eventually every corner of the globe. Fast forward to today, and coffee has become one of the most widely consumed beverages on the planet, trailing only behind water.
To craft these butter-smooth motion graphics, the creative team leaned into a powerful toolkit, including Adobe After Effects, Maxon Cinema 4D, and Smith Micro Graphics Moho Pro 13.
